Austin named hardest-drinking city in US

Forbes and Austin360

Oh yeah, really, I’m not sure I buy that.  There are way too many stoners and hippies running around to even think about booze.  I’m amazed there isn’t a cloud of pot hovering over the city just from my personal friends.  I guess since the City is only 1 million or 1.5 or so, the number of bars and college students could make numbers work.

But how exactly do you judge “hardest-drinking”, is that what you drink or how much or a hybrid of both?  Is there a point system?  I see people drinking beer and vodka mostly.  I would think a town drinking Car Bombs and Tequila mostly would win the award. Let’s say you drink 15 beers in night, you would get 15 points and if you drank 3 car bombs in one night, you would also get 15 points meaning beers are worth 1 and insane retarded multi combo drinks are worth 5 with tequila coming in at 4 and a red bull and vodka coming in at 2.  I guess I have a new system of how to keep track of how drunk I am.  I’m not as think as you dumb I am……

I like timelapse and I like Coachella, here’s both of them together for the world to see.  Enjoy and get your tickets early.  Every year is amazing.

What’s going on and my favorite TV shows

I’m taking a bit of time off from writing about music while I gear up for a hectic next few months.  Stuff in the pipe for me is VIP and Press status at Lollapalooza.  I just bought a Nikon D80 and will be taking photos of NIN, Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead, Chromeo, Brazilian Girls and as many other acts as I can squeeze in between trips to the bar at the VIP tent.  After that is Steve Porter at SKY Lounge.  This show promises to be on the order of Fortier.  Steve hasn’t been to Austin ever or at least a very long time and from what I can tell, people are fired up to see him.  Marcos Barrera is in town August 8th, don’t miss this, he is a very talented DJ and a hell of a guy. I’ve got a few gigs at Firehouse and then I’m off to Burning Man from August 26th until September 2nd road trip style with 4 good friends.  I’m taking my parents RV all the way from Amarillo to NorthWest Nevada with stops planned for Vegas, Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park.  Expect a post or two with pictures from that trip for sure.  The upcoming shows at SKY Lounge promise to leave everyone deaf and broke as a joke.  I can’t divulge the line ups just yet but if you care, you’ll know about them for sure.

Dexter - Season 3

Quick list of my favorite TV shows:

  1. Dexter - Showtime - I’m waiting for the 2nd season to come out on DVD still. 3rd season is about to start.
  2. Weeds - Showtime -Amazing show that has the ability to switch between comeday and drama from episode to episode.  Check out the special features on the DVDs for some great tips on growing your own weed.
  3. Lost -ABC - I was slow to get on this show but its like crack.  Again, it best to watch this show on DVD.  I’m way too impatient to wait for a new episode each week.
  4. Daily Show & Colbet Report - goes without saying
  5. NBA Finals, NCAA Football, and UFC - I do like sports and watching people get punched.
  6. Project Runway - My girlfriend watches the fuck out of this show and I’ve come to enjoy it. I know,  kind of gay, but UFC and sports balances it out.

Shows I want to check out:

  1. Hereos
  2. Bones
  3. The Wire
  4. Californication
  5. The L Word

Marcos Barrera @ SKY Lounge - August 8th

Marcos Barrera

Don’t miss this event. Marcos is an amazing DJ and is guaranteed to bring his unique sound to SKY Lounge.  I had the pleasure to play with him when he brought me down to Chihauhau in Feb. 2008.  He treated me like a superstar and I had a blast.  Him and Jesus Parada came down for AEMF in March and we had a blast.  Get ready for round 3. Support your locals and show up early.

Steve Porter @ SKY Lounge - August 15th

Steve Porter @ SKY Lounge - August 15th

This is gonna be one hell of a party. To my knowledge Porter hasn’t played Austin since I’ve lived here. Join us for another night of tasty beats. There are no presales for this. Tickets at the door only.

New July Mix for Download from my New Proton Show - RAW

Lance and I have decided to put the “The Sound” to bed.  Lance has been busy building his business and family and I decided it was best if I established my own show so I could explore some new ideas and types of music.

I’m calling the show “RAW” and its every 3rd Monday @ 10-12 AM EST.  The show is going to be a mix of any and all genres and moving through various tempos.  I’ve done the progressive, tech house sound for a long time and I want to show people some of the other great music that gets my juices flowing.  Its time to break out and do something fresh.

Rather than talk about it, take a listen:

Great birthday, thanks so much

Big thanks to everyone who came out on Friday.  It was one of the best events I’ve ever done and people truly seemed to enjoy themselves. Chris loves to come to Austin and I think this time was especially fun for him.  When I dropped him off at the airport, he said he would definitely come back next year to make it an annual party.  Sounds like a plan to me.

David Barnes from the Austin American Statesman did a little write up on the show.  Click here to read about it.

I’ll post some pictures I have in the next few days.

Thanks again.
