Description:
It’s been two months since my last RAW mix. Not a big deal, except that in the last two months, I’ve been to hell and back. I herniated a disc in my back, developed shingles on my face, had spine surgery and am finally starting to recover. Nothing like a major health issue to realign your purpose in the world. I’m blessed to have each and everyday on this planet with the family, friends, great job and amazing city I live in. I will not take this for granted but rather choose to contribute in every way I know how. I hope you enjoy this mix, it was done in Ableton Live using an APC 40. It was mixed live from start to finish with no retouches or re-edits. I’m still getting the hang of playing in Ableton and some of the mixes are sort of rough but just like life, I’m choosing to do something new for me rather than fall back to what I know.
Much Love and here’s to an amazing 2010.

A mix inspired by my recent trip to Burning Man and PANTyRAiD’s newest album and sunrise set at the Do Lab/El Circo dome. I’ve always loved Atmospheric breaks and I’m starting to find a lot of dubstep that not only hits hard with bass but brings in beautiful synths. Life is balance and music that has extremes catches my attention more than anything. Respect to all the artists whose tracks are on this mix.

Smooth Rub
Released: May, 2009
Genre: downtempo, hip hop, midtempo, dance rock, dubstep
Description
I’m feeling accomplished, RAW is starting to gain some traction. I’ve gotten a few emails and comments from people that really appreciate what I’ve been trying to do. Check out this video of Z-Trip featured on KCRW. He said something that really stuck out at me, that in the early days of DJing, people played everything and that its important to throw curveballs to keep people interested. For me, its much more enjoyable to seek out new and unusual tunes and styles than stick to one or two genres.

Many Times
Released: March, 2009
Genre: downtempo, glitch, grime, electro, house, dance rock
Description
I recently bought a Mac Book Pro. I upgraded to Albeton 8 and I’ve been spending some serious time in the studio. I’ve always DJed using either turntables or cd players. I’ve used CD players for the last two years along with Serato. I really enjoy Serato because it opened me up to play any and all genres. In fact, I don’t even think about genres any more, I can just mash songs together and see how they come out.
With my move to Ableton, I’m really just trying to push my boundaries and self imposed limitations. Live allows you to look sections of a track, skip parts all together and really dig into each and every track and make it your own. Re-Edits are super easy, pretty much every track because a re-edit. I can lay a 8 bar loop of an electro track on top of a deep house track and it becomes a whole new song.
The mix is by no means perfect and I’m sure no more or less people will like or dislike it. The point is that I’m trying to keep myself interested and motivated in djing by exploring technology. I’m looking forward to the APC-40 and playing with Ableton in front of people.

Adventures In Ableton
Released:February 2009
Genre: Electronica
Description:
I’m lazy this month and haven’tcreated the playlist. If you really care, leave me a comment and I’ll type it up.Mix starts with Dubstep to 135 BPM techno dropping into some Electro and then some Dance Rock.I like the idea of jumping from the rough Dubstep into techno, I don’t think people see how versatile Dubstep is at this point. Its slow but fast, rough but gentle, or maybe I’m late to the game and that’s what everyone has been screaming for the last 2 and a half years.Either way, I’m gonna keep playing with it like a teenager who found his dad’s playboy stash.
Grandma’s Can Rock Too
Released: January 2009
Genre: Electronica
Description:
I’ve been pushing even further into genres that are new and fresh to me including dubstep, trip hop, glitch, and laser rap. I really like the few Joker tracks and I think the new Mos Def track is one of his best. The Lupe Fiasco track at the end is remixed by Kraddy who is part of The Glitch Mob and is one sound that I’m really enjoying at the moment. Overall, I think its a smooth mix with some bangers throughout. Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
