Politics for a new Mix(ture)
I’m insanely political right now; the war, the environment, 49 million uninsured americans, the housing market, the falling dollar, torture, Jena Six, raped Saudi women being flogged and Iran’s nukes have my head spinning with worry and frustration with our current administration. Traditionally, electronic music seems to steer clear of politics but I’d be happy to see more promoters and DJs voicing their opinions and using their platform to at least bring issues to light. A good example of this was the Involved event that I played in September which raised over 5k for Unicef. I’d love to see more events being put on with a focus on education and nonprofit fund raising rather just for people to get drugged and drunk. That being said, nothing in this mix has anything political to say, but I thought I would get started by just writing down my thoughts. This mix will air on Proton on Nov. 23 from 2-4 CST.

The Sound - Proton Mix for 10/26/07
Here’s a new mix for your listening pleasures. Tracklistings below. This originally aired on “The Sound” on Proton on October 26th, 2007. The first mix is a tech house/progressive mix that fits in nicely with the Proton sound. The second is my attempt to buck the system and explore the relatively new Dance Rock stuff that I’ve been jamming for the last year. Some of the tracks are fairly old and well known and a few are ones that I’ve found that I haven’t heard anywhere else.

“The Sound” - 2007-09-28
I’ve been listening to proton for the last 4 years now. I recently signed up for their On Demand service and its great. I think they’ve done a great job with the site by adding track listings, tags, archived sets and forums. It really gives djs an equal playing field to be creative and have a outlet for music other than clubs.
Feel free to download my most recent mix, its a bit more techy and progressive then what I’ve been playing lately, but I think it works well for Proton.

Taking over “The Sound” on Proton
Lance Cashion has asked me to take over his massively popular show, “The Sound” on Proton Radio. Lance has been working with Proton for the last 5 years and has been a major part of their success. He compiled their first compilation which was sold on iTunes and helped them establish a relationship with Beatport. This is a major opportunity and something that I plan to take very seriously. Sam and Jay at Proton are both amazing guys with an amazing amount of energy and dedication to Electronic music. I’m stoked to have the opportunity to work with them and bring my “Sound” to “The Sound”. Look for me on the 4th Friday of every month from 2-4 PM CST.
On that note, a quick public thanks to Lance for everything he has ever done for me, both with music and just being a general great friend. I hope you nothing but the best in your new ventures and can only hope to fill your massively huge shoes.
Just a tiny bit of history, I first met Lance at The Red Room in Austin in 2000 while I was setting up the DJ booth for John Digweed. We hit it off and have since put on some amazing shows including Hybrid, Sander Kleinenberg, Chris Fortier, Lee Burridge, Jimmy Van M and others.
