Another month, another mix. Here’s a new mix from my 2008-01-25 edition of The Sound on Proton Radio .com. I’m calling it “New Chapter”, as I’ve just bought a new house and feel like this is most definitely a new chapter in my life. I like this mix because I start with some minimal move into some tech house then some electro and end up in some dance rock. I really enjoy shifting genre’s and experimenting with layering moods and energies. Feel free to download or stream the mix. Tracklisting below.

I have to say Dave and Josh played extremely well and were very down to earth. It was cool to see both Francis and G&D play and entire Abelton Live set at club and rock the place.
Politics for a new Mix(ture)
I’m insanely political right now; the war, the environment, 49 million uninsured americans, the housing market, the falling dollar, torture, Jena Six, raped Saudi women being flogged and Iran’s nukes have my head spinning with worry and frustration with our current administration. Traditionally, electronic music seems to steer clear of politics but I’d be happy to see more promoters and DJs voicing their opinions and using their platform to at least bring issues to light. A good example of this was the Involved event that I played in September which raised over 5k for Unicef. I’d love to see more events being put on with a focus on education and nonprofit fund raising rather just for people to get drugged and drunk. That being said, nothing in this mix has anything political to say, but I thought I would get started by just writing down my thoughts. This mix will air on Proton on Nov. 23 from 2-4 CST.

The Sound - Proton Mix for 10/26/07
Here’s a new mix for your listening pleasures. Tracklistings below. This originally aired on “The Sound” on Proton on October 26th, 2007. The first mix is a tech house/progressive mix that fits in nicely with the Proton sound. The second is my attempt to buck the system and explore the relatively new Dance Rock stuff that I’ve been jamming for the last year. Some of the tracks are fairly old and well known and a few are ones that I’ve found that I haven’t heard anywhere else.

Lance Cashion and Jesse Brede @ SKY Lounge - Sept. 28th, 2007
Lance and I opened the night for Sasha and DJ Three. It was one of the best gigs I’ve had in a good long while and reminded me why I put so much energy into djing. The crowd was awake and really listening to what we were playing. We started slow at around 120 BPM. I searched around for a bit to find a vibe that I liked and settled in on the darker side of tech house. Lance came on and played some really great atmospheric breaks that at first confused the crowd but then as the tracks picked up put the whole night in motion.
