ESKMO is one of my favorite dubstep/IDM/glitch producers. He has a sound completely of his own. You can almost always tell one of his tracks from the oddly time stretched slinky beats and crunky claps. His track Angus Dei is one of my all time favorites with its Dramatic Hugeness.

Eskmo just did a mix for Brainfeeder which is the home for artists like Gas Lamp Killer and Samiyam and also an event production team in Los Angeles.  Serious IDM, stuff to make your head spin not once but 3 times.

Finally some decent length mixes this week, the first is an awesome dubstep mix from Various Production. You never know what you’re going to get with these guys and this mix is no different. Although being around since pretty much the start of dubstep, VP seem to come across as outsiders, maybe because they have an edginess to their tunes that’s not present in most of the dancefloor orientated dubstep coming out of the UK. And also because their first album had a few tracks that were just vocal and acoustic guitar, something you wouldn’t find on a Benga album that’s for sure…

Highlights include the synth heaven of Starman and the insane Drink It featuring MC Vex. And the vocal track near the end is MC Vex also, not Mike Skinner…

Also on a similar tip, we have been absolutely killing a track called Beba, which is the new single from PANTyRAID (aka Glitch Mob’s Ooah and West Coast compadre Marty Party) dropping on Marine Parade at the end of next month, it’s B Side Get The Money is also fastly growing on us. Both of them are a touch more Dubstep then the Glitch Mob material but Beba still retains those Crunk-ish overtones, helped even further on this mini mix that featured on Mary Anne Hobbs‘ show a couple of weeks back by fusing it with a Lil Jon accapella.

I’m feeling accomplished, RAW is starting to gain some traction.  I’ve gotten a few emails and comments from people that really appreciate what I’ve been trying to do.  Check out this video of Z-Trip featured on KCRW.  He said something that really stuck out at me, that in the early days of DJing, people played everything and that its important to throw curveballs to keep people interested.  For me, its much more enjoyable to seek out new and unusual tunes and styles than stick to one or two genres.

This months Guest is DJ Thibault,  he’s a local Austin DJ and has been pushing the dance rock / electro sound for the few years.  I dig his stuff and he will be playing with me at Firehouse for the RAW Sessions on May 23rd.
