It’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything here. Life has been crazy busy, planning a wedding, Sedef and I fostered 3 baby kittens, started a record label, http://gravitasrecordings.com, visited Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, started taking piano lessons, had the 9th Annual Brede Bash with Zeale, Ill-Esha, Kid Slyce, The Pinch and myself.

I’m going to be working on a new mix this week so stay tuned for that.

Angus Dei

ESKMO is one of my favorite dubstep/IDM/glitch producers. He has a sound completely of his own. You can almost always tell one of his tracks from the oddly time stretched slinky beats and crunky claps. His track Angus Dei is one of my all time favorites with its Dramatic Hugeness.

Eskmo just did a mix for Brainfeeder which is the home for artists like Gas Lamp Killer and Samiyam and also an event production team in Los Angeles. Serious IDM, stuff to make your head spin not once but 3 times.

October is always a fun month, it gives me the motivation to try something different. This mix is a boiled down version of the tracks and producers that are setting my ears on fire for the last few months. Of note, Of Porcelain – Oaah’s latest project, Jahcoozi – a grime group from the UK that Sedef, my girlfriend introduced me to, Beats Antique who I feel like I’ve been listening to for years but I actually just discovered last month, Samples – a super hot producer from Boulder, CO, Ill.esha who I found on Glitch.fm forums and not one but two Prodigy remixes. A mix inspired by my recent trip to Burning Man and PANTyRAiD’s newest album and sunrise set at the Do Lab/El Circo dome. I’ve always loved Atmospheric breaks and I’m starting to find a lot of dubstep that not only hits hard with bass but brings in beautiful synths. Life is balance and music that has extremes catches my attention more than anything. Respect to all the artists whose tracks are on this mix.

Finally some decent length mixes this week, the first is an awesome dubstep mix from Various Production. You never know what you’re going to get with these guys and this mix is no different. Although being around since pretty much the start of dubstep, VP seem to come across as outsiders, maybe because they have an edginess to their tunes that’s not present in most of the dancefloor orientated dubstep coming out of the UK. And also because their first album had a few tracks that were just vocal and acoustic guitar, something you wouldn’t find on a Benga album that’s for sure…

Highlights include the synth heaven of Starman and the insane Drink It featuring MC Vex. And the vocal track near the end is MC Vex also, not Mike Skinner…
