Whilst Ninja Tune is hellbent on making its 20th anniversary celebrations memorable to say the least, they’re also intent on signing the artists that will keep them going another 20 years. Eskmo is one of the latest of these; a young artist deeply rooted in the resurgence of electronic music, with the vision and talent to write songs that defy genre and could only be his own. With prior recordings being released on esteemed labels Warp and Planet Mu, San Francisco based Eskmo is already being touted as one of the key artists in a new wave of creativity in electronica.

Described by Bleep.com as “Masterfully produced… sophisticated, post-Dilla hip-hop funk,” Eskmo’s music has caught the attention of Amon Tobin, who he collaborated with on a recent project entitled ‘Eskamon’. He has also toured as a live act throughout North America and Europe, and opened for both Amon and Flying Lotus. Pendulum’s Elhornet said in a recent interview: “There are good producers, then there are dudes who you never catch..and don’t even try. He’s one of those…”

This week’s Ninja Tune XX giveaway is a brand new Eskmo track entitled ‘Come Back.’ Showcasing his mastery of electronic production and trademark sound, it reveals exactly why Ninja Tune is so excited about this newest addition to their roster.

Eskmo’s brand new album will be out October 4th, 2010 on Ninja Tune. He will also be playing the Ninja Tune XX parties in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Brussels, and his first single, ‘Cloudlight,’ is featured on the forthcoming Ninja Tune XX compilation.

March is always an awesome month with SXSW, spring weather, tons of new music and albums hitting the stores.  This March was even better than usual.  Score More and Polaris brought PANTyRAiD to Austin and I had the pleasure to play before them.  This is my ableton set from that night.  I re-recorded it because I forgot to hit the record button.

I highly recommend the All Access Pack. You get something close to 100 tracks, a tshirt and a physical copy of their Coup d’Yah album.  The shirt is great quality, no cheap issh here. You also get access to their speakeasy of music. Yum!

Wu Tang vs The Beatles

I love creative concept mash up albums like this.  Easy Dub All-Stars have done this for Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” which was titlted “Dub Side of the Moon”, Radiohead’s “OK Computer” titled “Radiodread” and The Beatles  “Sgt. Pepper’s Loney Hearts Club” titled “Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band”.  And of course, who can forget Danger Mouse’s break out album – “The Grey Album” which was a mash of The Beatles “While Album” and Jay-Z’s “Black Album” which ended him up in a massive lawsuit, put him on the cover of URB and made him an overnight success leading to him working with C-Lo and The Gorillaz and doing production and engineer work for some of the best bands in the world.

This album is free for download on Bandcamp. It appears that this has been removed, let’s hope it comes back up.

It’s been two months since my last RAW mix.  Not a big deal, except that in the last two months, I’ve been to hell and back.  I herniated a disc in my back, developed shingles on my face, had spine surgery and am finally starting to recover.  Nothing like a major health issue to realign your purpose in the world.  I’m blessed to have each and everyday on this planet with the family, friends, great job and amazing city I live in.  I will not take this for granted but rather choose to contribute in every way I know how.  I hope you enjoy this mix, it was done in Ableton Live using an APC 40.  It was mixed live from start to finish with no retouches or re-edits.  I’m still getting the hang of playing in Ableton and some of the mixes are sort of rough but just like life, I’m choosing to do something new for me rather than fall back to what I know.

Nosaj Thing performing live

Nosaj Thing is pure fire at this point.  His live visual show is apparently bleeding edge.  His album ‘Drift‘ was on the list of pretty much every blogger and magazine for end of the year best ofs.  I credit his balance of melody, IDM and crystal clear clean production techniques.
