Oh how the weekends fly by so fast, its Friday night…snap….now its Sunday…..  When I was younger, it was all about going out on Friday and Saturday and getting as smashed as I physically could and using Sunday to sleep until 2 or 3, eat some greasy food, watch a movie and head back to bed.  As I’ve grown older, some would say wiser, the brunch and Sunday has really started to come into play.  A reasonably healthy meal with my lady and maybe an adult beverage or two really hits the spot.  Austin, Tx has no shortage of amazing restaurants to solicit for experience.   Why not have a DJ come out and play some tunes and really make a day of it?  11 AM too early for you, let’s move it to 3-6PM, now we are talking….this weekend I had the pleasure of playing such a fine event and I was sober enough and had enough daylight to actually record my set.

Thanks to Jeff Strange and the whole Strange family for hosting a great event.  It’s always a pleasure to play the softer side of my collection.

The 6th annual Art Outside (AO), a festival of artistic interaction and inspiration. Often over-the-top and under-the-radar of traditional art, this celebration of creativity offers unique and interactive twists on the festival experience. The event, inspired by alternative art and music festivals all over the world, offers three days of diverse acts and provocative art within the natural canvas of Apache Pass.

Art Outside continues to redefine “What Art Is” through a colorful showcase of installation artists, modern-day folk and 2D artists, live painters, ground-breaking visual projectionists, fire sculptures and an eclectic range of performers and musicians. The AO format deconstructs the traditional idea of what an art show is, presenting new possibilities for what an art show can be.

Blockhead produced nine tracks on Aesop Rock’s critically acclaimed album Labor Days. Additionally he produced half the tracks on Aesop’s follow up EP, Daylight. He has also worked with other indie giants such as Slug of Atmosphere, Murs, Mike Ladd and SA Smash. In between, he found time to complete a break beat album entitled Blockhead’s Broke Beats, with ten hard-hitting instrumental tracks, which was released on Mush Records, the US home of CLOUDDEAD. And just to prove that he ain’t about art-rap, Blockhead produced two tracks on the newly crowned Skribble Jam Battle Champ, MacLethal’s full-length album.

An idea of the esteem he is held in Stateside can be gleaned from the fact that he has also contributed three tracks (including the first single) for Cage’s new album on Def Jux. The other producers on the project are DJ Shadow, El-P and RJD2.

All this in addition to his debut album on Ninja Tune, “Music By Cavelight,” described as “one of the most fantastically good albums you’re going to hear this year” (Sunday Telegraph) and “a beautfiul record” (Metro), with Blockhead himself tipped as “definitely one to watch” (Touch). Insomniac, the biggest promoter of dance music events and nightlife culture in North America, is bringing their Nocturnal Festival to Texas for the first time ever! This is a big deal folks. For the past fifteen years, Nocturnal has featured some the biggest names in dance music, attracting crowds that are up to 50,000 strong. This Labor Day Weekend, they’re going to show Texas what it’s all about.

Nocturnal Festival: Texas will take place on September 4-5 2010 at Apache Pass, a sprawling outdoor campground/venue in Rockdale, just 30 minutes outside of Austin. There will four massive stages with over 100 artists and performers, including everyone’s favorite party starter Girl Talk, low end extraordinaire Bassnectar, livetronica band The Disco Biscuits, hip-hop star Kid Cudi, top Dutch DJ and producer Laidback Luke, Pretty Lights, Lotus and a whole lot more.

Founded in 1993, Insomniac produces innovative concerts and music festivals amplified by state-of-the-art lighting design, interactive circus and theatrical performances, and audience participation.
