Sept 13th - Lance Cashion, Jesse Brede and Toddy B @ Firehouse

Get ready for one hell of party.  Lance returns to Austin and I guarantee this is gonna be one of the best nights of the year.  Stay tuned for news on Lance’s Bday party on Halloween, Oct 31st.

Setp, 11th - DeadMau5 @ SKY

Looking forward to this show.  DeadMau5 rocked SKY during AEF last year.  Get your tickets early, I’m expecting it to sell out.

What’s going on and my favorite TV shows

I’m taking a bit of time off from writing about music while I gear up for a hectic next few months.  Stuff in the pipe for me is VIP and Press status at Lollapalooza.  I just bought a Nikon D80 and will be taking photos of NIN, Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead, Chromeo, Brazilian Girls and as many other acts as I can squeeze in between trips to the bar at the VIP tent.  After that is Steve Porter at SKY Lounge.  This show promises to be on the order of Fortier.  Steve hasn’t been to Austin ever or at least a very long time and from what I can tell, people are fired up to see him.  Marcos Barrera is in town August 8th, don’t miss this, he is a very talented DJ and a hell of a guy. I’ve got a few gigs at Firehouse and then I’m off to Burning Man from August 26th until September 2nd road trip style with 4 good friends.  I’m taking my parents RV all the way from Amarillo to NorthWest Nevada with stops planned for Vegas, Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park.  Expect a post or two with pictures from that trip for sure.  The upcoming shows at SKY Lounge promise to leave everyone deaf and broke as a joke.  I can’t divulge the line ups just yet but if you care, you’ll know about them for sure.

Dexter - Season 3

Quick list of my favorite TV shows:

  1. Dexter - Showtime - I’m waiting for the 2nd season to come out on DVD still. 3rd season is about to start.
  2. Weeds - Showtime -Amazing show that has the ability to switch between comeday and drama from episode to episode.  Check out the special features on the DVDs for some great tips on growing your own weed.
  3. Lost -ABC - I was slow to get on this show but its like crack.  Again, it best to watch this show on DVD.  I’m way too impatient to wait for a new episode each week.
  4. Daily Show & Colbet Report - goes without saying
  5. NBA Finals, NCAA Football, and UFC - I do like sports and watching people get punched.
  6. Project Runway - My girlfriend watches the fuck out of this show and I’ve come to enjoy it. I know,  kind of gay, but UFC and sports balances it out.

Shows I want to check out:

  1. Hereos
  2. Bones
  3. The Wire
  4. Californication
  5. The L Word

Marcos Barrera @ SKY Lounge - August 8th

Marcos Barrera

Don’t miss this event. Marcos is an amazing DJ and is guaranteed to bring his unique sound to SKY Lounge.  I had the pleasure to play with him when he brought me down to Chihauhau in Feb. 2008.  He treated me like a superstar and I had a blast.  Him and Jesus Parada came down for AEMF in March and we had a blast.  Get ready for round 3. Support your locals and show up early.

Steve Porter @ SKY Lounge - August 15th

Steve Porter @ SKY Lounge - August 15th

This is gonna be one hell of a party. To my knowledge Porter hasn’t played Austin since I’ve lived here. Join us for another night of tasty beats. There are no presales for this. Tickets at the door only.

Great birthday, thanks so much

Big thanks to everyone who came out on Friday.  It was one of the best events I’ve ever done and people truly seemed to enjoy themselves. Chris loves to come to Austin and I think this time was especially fun for him.  When I dropped him off at the airport, he said he would definitely come back next year to make it an annual party.  Sounds like a plan to me.

David Barnes from the Austin American Statesman did a little write up on the show.  Click here to read about it.

I’ll post some pictures I have in the next few days.

Thanks again.

Event Updates: 6th Annual SemiAudiks Boatparty - July 5th and Chris Fortier @ SKY June 20th

My yearly boat party will be July 5th from 7 - 11. Tarek from LickSamba will be co-sponsoring and bringing in his crew to bring the funk. As usual, I’ve got surprises lined up to make you laugh, stuffed and drunk. If you want to reserve a spot now, email me at boatparty@jessebrede.com.

UPDATE: Reverend Pain will be on SAX and Angela Nations will belly dance at some point in the night.  Fajita dinner and all you can drink for $25.  If that’s not a deal, I don’t know what is.

Also, I’m bringing in Chris Fortier to SKY on June 20th for my Birthday Bash. Toddy B, Jack Schaedler and I will be staring off the night. Hooray for me, I’m gonna be older and probably dumber.

UPDATE: The Lolla Dolls will be Go Go dancing and Pioneer will be on hand with a SVM-1000 for everyone to try out. Chris and I will also be giving away 100 promos each to the first people through the door so get there early.

Hope to see everyone at both.

What gear is DeadMau5 using?

I had the pleasure to help Joel Zimmerman, aka DeadMau5, setup his gear not once but two times at the Austin Electronic Music Festival. Toddy B and I also opened the night and you can hear the last track I played just before DeadMau5 goes on in the below video.

DeadMau5 uses a very unique setup. He’s running Abelton Live on a 17″ G5 MacBook Pro ($2-3k) outputting to an Apoge Ensemble ($2k) soundcard. He’s using a 16×16 (256) Monome controller ($800) for what I’m not totally sure and a touch screen Lemur ($3k) made by Jazz Mutant to control his effects. He’s running 4 stereo outs from his Ensemble to whatever club mixer is at hand, in our case, a Pioneer DJM-800($1600) which was also setup with a Pioneer EFX-1000 ($800). As far as I could tell, he used everything that he brought and used it well.

Ghostland Observatory with UT Marching Band

I was lucky enough to see the Ghostland show at Austin Music Hall for the CD Release party of Robotique Mystique. I found a youtube video of it and thought I would share. It was a great show, completely sold out, packed to the walls and the crowd couldn’t get enough.
