This is so great, I just had to post it. I’ve been chatting with my roommate about how the “Gold” standard of Pop/Rap music is these f*cking vocalist using Melodyne or a vocoder and that the effect has now become the sound that people recognize and buy. It blows me away that people want to listen to junk like this. Don’t they realize it’s a mask for artist’s that can’t hold key? On the other hand, I’m all about technology and what you can do with it, but it still bugs the shit out of me that artists like T-Pain make this “their” sound.
Totally agreed. I had the same conversation with my wife while we were laughing through the T-Pain train wreck during the VMAs recently. I felt embarrassed for everyone on stage and yet they are the top of the heap! What a joke! I was always one of the biggest fans of rap / hip-hop and over the past few years I can’t seem to tolerate more than about 20 seconds of it before any top-10 song makes me cringe. So sad. The new generation of hip-pop killed the genre and made it so dumbed down I swear it’s only made for a jr. high audience. Lollipop? Puhhhhh-leeeeeze.
Peace,

go ahead mr. wendel(s).
Lil wayne’s the only one i’m feelin with this plug-in debate… hip hop has been so boring for years…it took a software cheat to get people’s attention. At least Wayne Little is singing shit with some level of depth.
Still.
Immortal Technique ….got them all on lock.
speaking of,
maybe some people dont know, Roger Troutman made the vocoder immortal. Believe it or not i saw Roger LIVE at a metal rock bar called the BACKROOM in Austin before the venue shut down fer good.
But i cant leave out the master,
here’s the best for last:
