The SOUND with Jesse Brede May 2008

I recently watched the documentary MOOG and was intensely inspired by it. Check the intro on the first track for some samples from it. Robert Moog is a modern day genius and deserves some serious credit for pushing his ideas into the world. Check it out if you have a chance.

ATTIGO TT: The Touch Screen Turntable

Check out this video of touch screen turntables.

The ATTIGO TT was created by Scott Hobbs, a student at Dundee University studying innovative product design. For his final year project he’s created a touch screen turntable that lets DJ’s loop, sample and scratch wave forms just as you would a record. The size of the touchtable is approximately the same as a standard turntable, making the physical interaction nearly the same. Where this takes off is in the flexibility and features included right at your fingertips, no longer locked up on a computer screen. The ATTIGO TT is currently a working prototype, and Scott is looking for manufacturers to partner with.

Social Networking WARS

I use both myspace and facebook. I like them both for different reasons. Here’s a quick video of why they are both retarded. SKANKS!!!

Here’s another good video on Spacebook and Myface.

Beatbox Cooking Show and Techno Chicken

This has to be one of my all time favorite YouTube videos. This guy is simply amazing. Normally beatboxing is fun for the first few minutes but then turns into a sort of lame drum solo coming out of someone’s mouth. This has a cool concept and let’s get visual with the guy. I love how he opens the “filter” of his mouth as he opens the lid. Solid work Mr. Cooking Beatbox Guy. Drink Bud Light.

Here’s a bonus, Techno Chicken in the house:

Make Beats online

This has to be one of the coolest sites I’ve ever seen. Granted its a Java application but still to emulate all the stop boxes and sequencers is truly amazing. To see what I mean, you’re just going to have to try it.

The setup is very much like that of Reason or Fruity Loops buts its online.

New Justice Video

I saw Justice at Coachella a few weeks back and it was simply RAW. One of the loudest shows I’ve ever seen. Very punk, very electronic, very tough. Check out their new video for Stress.

What gear is DeadMau5 using?

I had the pleasure to help Joel Zimmerman, aka DeadMau5, setup his gear not once but two times at the Austin Electronic Music Festival. Toddy B and I also opened the night and you can hear the last track I played just before DeadMau5 goes on in the below video.

DeadMau5 uses a very unique setup. He’s running Abelton Live on a 17″ G5 MacBook Pro ($2-3k) outputting to an Apoge Ensemble ($2k) soundcard. He’s using a 16×16 (256) Monome controller ($800) for what I’m not totally sure and a touch screen Lemur ($3k) made by Jazz Mutant to control his effects. He’s running 4 stereo outs from his Ensemble to whatever club mixer is at hand, in our case, a Pioneer DJM-800($1600) which was also setup with a Pioneer EFX-1000 ($800). As far as I could tell, he used everything that he brought and used it well.

Adam Freeland and Roger Waters support Obama at Coachella

I just got back from Coachella. The line up was simpy amazing. Highlights would be Prince, Portishead, Modeselektor, Justic, Adam Freeland and Roger Waters. Both Adam Freeland and Roger Waters showed their support for Obama in their sets. Adam did a speak and spell verison of Obama and also had Sheppard Fairy’s prints in his visuals. Roger Water’s released a Giant Pig ballon that Obama written on the belly. The pig actually got loose and there was $10,000 reward to anyone who returned it. Looks like they found it though.

I’ll post some pictures later this week.
